EJU 2026 Exam Dates, Registration Windows and Test Sites (and What We Know About 2027)

The second EJU session of 2026 takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, and results are scheduled for release on December 15, 2026. Registration for that session closed on July 30, 2026, so if you missed it, the next chance is the first session of 2027. As of October 4, 2026, JASSO has not yet published any 2027 dates. This page lists only what the official EJU pages state.

2026 EJU calendar at a glance

Outside Japan, the mailing date for admission tickets is decided by JASSO together with the local partner organization in each country or region, so ask that organization if you have not received yours.

Where you can take the test

In Japan

The 2026 guidelines list test areas in: Hokkaido, Miyagi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Ishikawa/Toyama/Fukui, Shizuoka, Aichi, Kyoto/Shiga, Osaka, Hyogo, Okayama/Hiroshima, Kochi, Fukuoka and Okinawa.

For November 2026, the venue list in Japan was last updated on September 4, 2026. In the Tokyo area, venues include campuses of the University of Tokyo (Komaba), Sophia, Meiji, Rikkyo, Senshu, Chuo, Soka and the University of Electro-Communications, among others. Three practical points from JASSO:

  • Venues can change or be added
  • If a venue fills up, you may be moved to a nearby prefecture instead of the one you requested
  • Your admission ticket shows your final venue; do not contact venues directly

Outside Japan

The EJU is held in 13 countries and regions outside Japan, in these cities: New Delhi (India), Jakarta and Surabaya (Indonesia), Seoul and Busan (South Korea), Singapore, Colombo (Sri Lanka), Bangkok and Chiang Mai (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan), Manila (Philippines), Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Yangon (Myanmar) and Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).

JASSO published the specific overseas venues for the November 2026 session on October 2, 2026. Note that the EJU has not been held in Vladivostok (Russia) since the 2024 academic year. Outside Japan, you apply through the local partner organization rather than directly to JASSO.

2026 fees

  • In Japan: 12,000 yen for one subject, 23,000 yen for two or more subjects (tax included)
  • Overseas examples: Taiwan NT$1,500 (one subject) or NT$2,000 (two or more); Hong Kong HK$600 or HK$1,150; South Korea 65,000 or 110,000 won; Thailand 400 baht; Vietnam 275,000 dong; India 1,300 rupees

Fees for Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Mongolia went up for 2026, according to the guidelines.

What about 2027?

The EJU schedule page currently lists only the two 2026 sessions, and the guidelines index lists the 2025 and 2026 editions. No 2027 registration dates, test dates or result dates have been published yet. We will not guess them.

What JASSO does state as the general pattern is that the EJU is held twice a year, in June and November, both on Sundays. Study in Japan describes the first session as having registration in February–March and the second as having registration in July. Use that pattern for rough planning only, and check the official schedule page before booking anything.

How to use these dates in your plan

  • Scores last two years. A November 2026 score can still be used for applications in later years, as long as your target university accepts that session
  • Match the session to the university. Many universities name the session they require. Applying for April 2027 entry often depends on scores from June or November 2026; check each school's guidelines
  • Scholarship reservation results. If you opted into the EJU-linked scholarship reservation program for November 2026, JASSO says reservation notices become downloadable on EJU Online from the end of January 2027
  • Changes are not possible. Subject choices and question language cannot be edited after registration

If you are coming to Japan to sit the November exam, or you have just arrived for language school, a short-term furnished room near a station with easy access to your assigned venue can make test day much less stressful.
